Markets in Malawi: a painting

Jackie Hall captures MicroLoan clients in Malawi and Zambia at a bustling market.

Artist Jackie Hall is selling her acrylic and textured paintings, and is donating 50% of proceeds to support MicroLoan’s work.

These images were created using acrylic, African fabrics and collaged images on hardboard.

They are inspired by Jax Hall’s childhood growing up in Zambia, exploring memories of the rich red earth and the huge blue skies. But the series really grew out of work done on a trip to Malawi and Zambia in 2017, when Jax and her husband visited MicroLoan projects, distributing and managing a small loans programme to women.

These images are a celebration of the richness, diversity and importance of entrepreneurship and small business enterprise in both countries, visible on the side of every road as you travel through the land. In Jackie’s words, “MicroLoan’s work is at the heart of this African spirit”.

There are six artworks to choose from. 50% of the sale of the images in the series will be donated to help continue MicroLoan Foundation’s inspiring work. If you would like to give an additional gift to the charity, it will be warmly welcomed. Thank you.
